Introducing Restless Meanderer

Hello and welcome to Restless Meanderer! I want to introduce myself further and explain how excited I am to share my adventures with this new blog! I have been thinking about creating a blog for what seems like forever; always taking photos on my trips, trying to vlog, and recording my daily activities in a note on my phone. However, I am still trying to improve my photography skills and creative writing has never been my strong suit so these two factors have held me back in the past. Additionally, I have never been very good about posting or creating things in the moment. I think that’s one reason I have been really drawn to blogging. I truly love sharing my trips with others and believe this is the best format for me!  I get so excited when family or friends ask me about the hike I did last weekend or want recommendations of what to do in a town they know I’ve visited. With this blog, I am hoping to reach a wider audience to share my journey with.

What to Expect

Restless Meanderer will be a space where I can share my adventures- the good and the bad. It will be stories of successes and lessons learned including those from trips taken abroad with my family and road trips with my boyfriend. I will provide hiking lists, sharing my progress as I tackle the high peaks of the northeast and smaller trails in different states.

As I update you on my journeys and inevitable mishaps, I will share photos of the amazing places I have been lucky enough to see, routes of road trips I have been on, and walk you through how I plan trips of my own. That one might make me sound like a crazy person though because I open approximately 200 tabs on my computer at a time.

I am absolutely loving exploring New England and can’t wait to share what I find along the way. As we wait for the world to fully reopen, I’m continuing to fill my Pinterest board with ideas, save wanderlust-y photos on Instagram, and peruse travel Facebook groups. I’m finding ways to keep my adventurous self busy until I can take full advantage of travel again. This winter I was seriously trying to get into winter hiking but I really just don’t enjoy it if it isn’t sunny and above 30 degrees. I’m working on it though, I swear.

In Regards to Where I’ve Traveled..

I have been very fortunate to go on trips with my family growing up and I am so excited to share my experiences with these places. Remembering how they made me feel and the sheer joy I had for being in another area of the world will always stay with me. I am so grateful to my parents because they let me begin exploring the world before I needed my own money to do it. I fully understand this is not the case for everyone though so I will never take those trips for granted. Countries outside the United States I have visited so far are: Canada, England, France, Italy, Ireland, Scotland, and Switzerland. My travels have been brief in each, but I cannot express how eye opening it is to see different ways of life and get a glimpse of how big the world truly is and how many of us are living in it.

On my road trips and weekend trips in the United States, many of which have been fueled by my hiking hobby, I have been able to spend time in about half of the 50 states. Does anyone else’s mind start spinning just thinking about how many different landscapes, cities, and peoples there are in the United States? It’s insane! The dream is to go on a month plus long road trip in a camper van and just explore– try new food, get outside, learn the history, and meet people.

My Biggest Hiking Goal Right Now is…

to finish the 46 high peaks in the Adirondacks (hopefully summer of 2021!) but amidst starting a job in a brand new state and figuring out how to be an adult out of college, I’ve taken to exploring smaller trails around New Hampshire more recently. The White Mountains here are beautiful and I will definitely be wandering through them more. I love finding the local hiking lists (oftentimes you can get a patch as a souvenir for finishing) so I am slowly picking away at these. They are the best resource I’ve had for discovering new trails and towns so far! On this blog I intend to track my progress and provide hiking recommendations for the areas I’ve visited. There’s nothing quite like getting away from the hustle and bustle of real life and getting lost (not literally) on a trail. Taking a moment to fully reflect on where you are helps you look inward and reflect on where you want to go.
