List of New York Fire Towers

In these challenges, you set out to tackle New York firetowers. The firetowers are both in the Adirondacks as well as the Catskills in New York. There are 27 fire towers listed in the Adirondacks and there are 8 firetowers listed in the Catskills.

For the Adirondack Fire Tower Challenge, you must hike 18 of the 27 qualifying fire towers in the Adirondacks and 5 of the fire towers in the Catskills. The original challenge says to hike “all 5 fire towers in the Catskills” but the number of fire towers in the region has since increased to 8. The orginal 5 are the first 5 listed in the Catskills section in the below list. I have not seen any rule changes that you must now hike 8 fire towers, but maybe there is flexibility to pick which 5 in the Catskills you hike- you’ll have to check! For this challenge there are also stewardship requirements and an ADK Fire Tower Challenge Pledge to sign.

For the Catskills specific patch, you must complete all 8 of the Catskills fire towers in the 2026 calendar year. Then you can submit a form for the 2026 Catskills Fire Tower Challenge.
