Camp Better: Portable Gas Propane Stove Traverseon Gear Review

Traverseon, an outdoor gear company based out of Hong Kong but supporting customers globally, unveiled a new Solo Camping Collection spring 2026. I was fortunate to be able to test out the Portable Gas Propane Stove from this new collection which came just in time for my husband and I to bring on our two week road trip across the USA!
Spoiler alert- I’m so glad we did! This gear review will discuss initial impressions of the portable gas propane stove, how we used it, the pros, and the cons.
The mission of Traverseon is “Simplify Your Outdoor Life” which of course resonates with me and my adventuring. With this stove, I certainly felt that way on our road trip. They have a lot of products on their website and after trying this stove, I am more open to trying another item and seeing how that may fit into my camping set-up.

What is the Traverseon Portable Gas Propane Stove?
The Traverseon Portable Gas Propane Stove is a small stove perfect for car camping and everyday travel. While I brought this stove on a road trip, it could also be used at the park, on a beach, in your backyard, or anywhere else you have a flat surface to set up on.
This little stove weighs 900g (about 2 lbs) including the hose and folding frame and has the following dimensions per the manufacturer:

Note the Power Output above claims no visible flame but this is not entirely true. Upon igniting the fuel and turning the stove on you will certainly see some flame. But as the Portable Gas Propane Stove runs while you are cooking, you won’t have a constant flame like you might see with other backpacking or camping stoves.
The wind can still affect the output if you aren’t too careful, but due to the lack of flame the stove won’t necessarily go out. I still liked creating a wind barrier when we were camping in high wind areas!
Unboxing the Portable Gas Propane Stove
When you purchase the Portable Gas Propane Stove, it arrives packaged in its storage case inside a shipping box. The storage case was a great feature because if there is one thing I absolutely hate, it is losing pieces of an item that need to go together. It is too much of a jumble when things can get spread out in your car or in your pack.
The storage case has inside it: the stove, a braided gas hose, two fitting styles, a tiny little wrench, and some very generic directions. There were also two pieces of square cut styrofoam on the top and bottom to protect everything. Packing up is easy as the hose and fittings actually fit under the stove itself when stored in the case.
*Note- you do not want to lose this wrench! I’ll talk about it in the Operation section below.
The two fitting styles allow you to attach your Portable Gas Propane Stove to a flat valve gas canister (lindal valve) or use the additional adapter to connect to screw-type butane canisters. These generally cover any typical fuel you might use camping (think Jetboil, Coleman, MSR, etc.). The website has a third attachment style for industrial propane cylinders available for separate purchase.
Everything was very clean and well packaged upon the unboxing of my stove. I was pleased to see no damage during shipment and was overall impressed with the shipping time.
First Impressions of the Portable Gas Propane Stove
My first impressions were that clearly this stove is meant to be used for camping and not backpacking (which the website tells you of course). The weight and size of the stove are not something I would want to carry in a backpack.
It works best on a sturdy, flat surface where you have room to set up both the stove and the fuel. The hose appears to be good quality, but it was a little thinner than expected for a stove meant for camping over backpacking.
I love the clean look of this little stove. It’s a cool sage color and is so nice and compact. There aren’t all these buttons to mess with as you simply hook up a propane canister and you’re on your way.
The instructions provided by Traverseon were in somewhat broken English, but for anyone with any stove experience, it is an exceptionally simple product and easy to figure out. The stove felt lighter than I expected too. As someone who has only ever used an MSR stove backpacking, I expected this to feel huge.
Lastly, I was glad the stove felt as sturdy as it did. The corner legs are wide and prevent tipping and movement of the stove on any relatively flat surface. I didn’t have to worry about knocking it over while prepping meals.
Operating the Traverseon Portable Gas Propane Stove
To get started with your Portable Gas Propane Stove, you’ll need to purchase a fuel canister, pick the correct fitting attachment, and have the provided wrench on hand. The hose can stay connected to the fitting/adapter, but you’ll want to remove it from the stove itself and the propane canister for storage purposes.
The generic operation steps are below (please read the instructions or watch a video for more details):
- Screw on the chosen fitting/adapter to the braided hose.
- Rotate the one-click ignition switch out from below the stove so it is accessible (I didn’t realize ours rotated out at first and it would’ve been way easier had I figured that out sooner!).
- Attach the other end of the braided hose to the threaded hole on the stove itself (see image below, there’s only one spot this can go). Use the wrench to tighten the nut.
- Screw the fitting onto your chosen fuel canister (with the gas turned off!).
- Turn the gas on slowly until you hear the gas flowing into the stove (not too much! Don’t want an explosion over here).
- Click the black ignition switch once to light the stove.
- Adjust the fuel output as needed (if you adjust the fuel too low and the stove isn’t outputting anything, turn the fuel all the way off and start at step 4 again so you don’t release too much gas into the air).
The wrench, in my opinion, can be very finicky! This was one of two negative feedbacks I provided to Traverseon after use. That nut is so small that I couldn’t hand-tighten it so I needed to use the wrench, but the wrench is thin and small as well so it was hard to get a good grip on the nut. I had to treat the wrench like a ratchet by removing it and coming back in for another teeny tiny turn until the fitting was tight. And since you can’t turn very far before the stove impedes the wrench movement, it’s a lot of little turns to get the job done. And then the same for removing the hose from the attachment point.
Packing the Portable Gas Propane Stove for the Road Trip
We kept the Traverseon Portable Gas Propane Stuff in our box of campground essentials. This included other items like lanterns, cast iron pans, propane canisters, mugs, paper towels, our dishware and utensils, and our coffee percolator. We kept the stove, its hose, and the fittings in the storage container the whole time and even left in the top and bottom styrofoam protection pieces from when it was shipped.
I’ll admit we did pack my MSR stove and fuel as backup since it’s so small, it’s something I’m familiar with, and I already love to use it when backpacking. However, I can honestly say we didn’t need to use it and didn’t even consider pulling it out! The Portable Gas Propane Stove worked amazingly well and I could never have trusted my backpacking stove with our heavy cast iron pan.
Ways We Used our Portable Gas Propane Stove
The Traverseon Portable Gas Propane Stove worked for every type of meal we were cooking on our road trip. I will add that I am by no means a fantastic camp chef so we stuck to meals that were simple to prepare.
First and foremost, we used the stove for the coffee percolator every morning. Once it was up and running we could set about putting away the Cascadia Vehicle Tent, making yogurt bowls, or getting ready for the day. It worked perfectly!
We also boiled water for backpacking meals, pasta, and powdered mashed potatoes. It’s amazing how much you can do with just a pot and some water. We used a light pot from a GSI Outdoors backpacking set so we had no concerns about the weight we were putting on the stove. The pot was also used for soup a couple times on the trip.
With the prongs folded outward, the stove was the perfect size for our medium sized cast iron pan! This let us cook hot dogs at camp and warm up any other food or leftovers we picked up easily. Again, if I was more into cooking at camp, we could have done all sorts of meals with our cast iron.
Finally, I attempted cooking a s’more over the stove one night since I was craving one. How did I cook it you might ask? Very carefully, haha. The last thing I’d want was for marshmallow to drip onto that stove. So while it might have come out a little less cooked than I’d normally like, and while I wouldn’t necessarily recommend this method of making a s’more, it did technically work.
Pros vs. Cons of the Portable Gas Propane Stove

Final Thoughts
To summarize my above review, I was pleasantly surprised with the Traverseon Portable Gas Propane Stove and will gladly use it again for camping or on everyday adventures. The stove is a small and lightweight alternative to many camping stoves on the market and works perfectly for those who like simple camp meals. Operation is easy and the included storage case keeps everything together so you’re immediately ready to get cooking when you get to camp or wake up in the morning.
I really enjoyed being able to test this new product on my road trip! Traverseon has a huge catalog of products, but after the success with this stove I would consider purchasing another item for myself to test out. I love finding new gear that improves my adventures and makes exploring even better!
